First Christian Church in Cumming is active not only in the local community but also in efforts to help people in need across the country.
The church has helped build Habitat for Humanity homes for needy families in Kentucky and Appalachia. It sent church volunteers to Louisiana and Mississippi to help with the cleanup following Hurricane Katrina, and it is involved in campus ministries with a global scope.
This dedication of time, resources, efforts and prayers to helping others is important. Sharing the gospel is most effective when others have seen it lived out in the lives of those who, themselves, follow Jesus.
That’s true for providing assistance at the local level too. The church has many activities aimed at helping residents of the surrounding area. For instance, First Christian has operated a preschool for 25 years. The enrollment for this growing program is now 202 children.
Some of the responsibilities of the Church are sharing the key to spiritual life from the Scriptures that leads to a relationship with Jesus Christ; and to serve our neighbors in practical ways such as meeting needs for clothing, feeding, and sheltering. Sharing the Gospel is most effective when others have seen it lived out in the lives of those who, themselves, follow Jesus.
